The regulatory situation as regards to biostimulants has been changing recently (in 2025):

The Burkina Faso government adopted a new law ([ Loi n°010-2025/ALT (adopted 4 July 2025) ]) that aims at better controlling fertilisers in the country.

That new law now covers also bio-fertilisers, liquid and organic fertilisers, thus enabling the regulation of what is generally called “biostimulants” as well.

The import of products onto the Burkina Faso market goes through one state-controlled entity called “SOBIMAP”, which holds the legal monopoly on importation.

It was also decided that before any fertiliser, biofertriliser, or biostimulant can be placed on the market (imported or locally produced), it must undergo quality and conformity assessment by the comptent Ministry’s technical services.

It means that if you wish to sell your product on the market there, you will have to engage with the Ministry of Agriculture to have your product officially classified as one of the existing types of fertilisers under the current law, as this determines the regulatory pathway.

But, the legislation is new and the situation is evolving, and to date (4 December 2025) there is not yet a formal or public regulatory definition of a “biostimulant” in Burkina Faso, so the classification might - depending of what your product exactly is made of and its effects - be classified as something different.

A part from the regulatory pathways for products, you, as a company, will also have to obtain the necessary authorisations (agrément), such as an import authorisation.

Also, as the new law was only adopted in 2025, there are, right now, still many products on the market that are unregulated and it is expected to take some time before all market players are in compliance with the new law.
